Packaging Your Shipment Using Best Practices Can Make the Difference Between a Loss & Recovery
It's a fact that shipments are lost within the shipping process every week. Whether you are shipping domestically by FedEx, UPS, USPS or Freight, or internationally by FedEx, DHL or Freight, there are always packages disappearing, never to be seen again. This is why you use ShipandInsure.com! Protecting your financial interest in the value of your shipped items for loss or damage provides peace of mind vs the alternative.
Our Customer Service team hears stories of loss by prospective customers and individuals inquiring about our service frequently. Many times, these folks learn of our program after the fact of a loss or damage experience.
Let's review the best packaging methods to minimize loss or damage:
- Always double box for coins, bullion, collectible currency, loose stones, jewelry, watches and similar items.
- Double boxing fragile items such as glass, ceramics and other breakable items always gives additional cushioning when packed with foam or bubble wrap around the item(s) and surrounding the inner box.
- Always place a duplicate label on the inner box. Outer boxes get compromised in sorting equipment sometimes and when the inner box falls out, the label permits the inner package to continue on its way to the recipient.
- Artwork travels safely in fine art packaging, such as Masterpak, with very minimal issues.
- Larger framed artwork, antiques, models, equipment and other large and heavier items should be professionally crated.
- Our policy always requires a signature by the recipient or an adult at the recipient's address.
- Consider the fact that the package may be dropped at 4 feet and must be able to take that blow.
- Photograph the items you plan to ship and the packaging you are using to protect the items before the shipment is sealed.
